Navigating the Miguel de la Borda River: A Unique Journey Unfolds

Embarking on an extraordinary journey requires more than just a sense of adventure; it demands creativity, determination, and a touch of unconventional transportation. Our endeavor to cross the Miguel de la Borda River became a memorable experience, as we navigated its currents on a hand-made barrel float, guided by two motorized kayaks. What seemed like a straightforward river crossing unfolded into a challenging yet exhilarating escapade.

The Tricky Art of River Crossing: A Barrel Float Adventure

Crossing a river isn't always as simple as it sounds, especially when you're relying on a hand-made barrel float. Crafted with ingenuity, our unique "ferry" comprised a wooden platform lashed to 55-gallon barrels, propelled by the sturdy force of two river kayaks with outboard motors, with people in the kayaks onto the raft, and people on the raft holding on the to the kayaks. The delicate dance between man-made innovation and the natural forces of the river made for a tricky yet thrilling journey.

Community Creativity Unleashed: Crossing the Miguel de la Borda River

Getting off the ferry on the other side of the Miguel de la Borda River proved to be a bit more challenging than anticipated. However, the beauty of community came to light as we had an abundance of volunteer helpers armed with creative ideas. Whether it was strategizing the unloading process or lending a hand to stabilize the float, everyone pitched in, turning a potential challenge into a shared triumph.

Two Days on the Road: The Journey of "La Cabrita"

Our beloved Jeep, affectionately named "La Cabrita" (The Little Goat), played a pivotal role in our grand adventure. It took us a full two days to drive only 30 kilometers from Miguel de la Borda to the pristine destination of Camaroncito. A journey through lush rainforests and along spectacular coastlines that could have been merely about reaching a destination transformed into an incredible expedition, filled with unexpected twists and turns.

Highlights Unveiled: A Video Series Chronicle

In a series of videos, we invite you to join us as we unfold the highlights of this incredible two-day journey. From the mesmerizing landscapes that unfolded outside "La Cabrita's" windows to the heart-pounding moments of navigating the barrel float across the river, or driving across two 10 inch wide planks, each video captures the essence of our adventure. Experience the thrill, the challenges, and the camaraderie that defined our road trip.

Volunteer Spirit and Creative Solutions: The Power of Community

Beyond the scenic beauty and the challenges of river crossing, our journey exemplifies the power of community spirit. It's the collective creativity of volunteers, including homesteads along that way that provided companionship, and the occasional cold beer. Each encounter contributing unique ideas and lending a helping hand, that transformed potential obstacles into shared victories. The Miguel de la Borda River crossing became a testament to the strength of unity and the willingness to overcome challenges together.

Two Pueblos, One Mission: Bridging Gaps and Building Roads

The road from Miguel de la Borda to Cocle del Norte is not just a physical path; it's a symbol of progress and connectivity. Overcoming the challenges of the original road cut in 2021 up until our two-day drive is a microcosm of the larger mission to connect communities along the Costa Abajo area.
